1848 -1995 NORTH WALES HOSPITAL Denbigh The above photograph dates to about 1920 showing the front of the original building which was completed in 1848 November 2007
hired a cine camera in order to film the climax of what had been a
spectacular 1966/67 season for the North Wales Hospital team. The first
sequence is the last match of the Dyserth Area League, an evening kick-off
at the Hospital ground, against Penyffordd, which accounts for the fading
light. The Hospital team needed to score an unlikely seven goals to clinch
the League title on goal difference over their main rivals, Mostyn YMCA.
scored which meant that the championship title was denied by the most
slender of mathematical differences. During that exceptional season the team
scored goals for fun and the 'deadly striking duo,' Doug Griffiths and Dewi
Williams, scored almost a hundred goals between them.
at Winwick Hospital, Warrington which took place a week later and the
Hospital team emerged comfortable 3-0 winners. The team enjoyed a coach load
of vocal support from the travelling 'fanatics', many of whom are seen on
film.
it was an easy decision for me to part with the film as I gave it to Keith
Warburton to take to his new home in Canada. Keith was passionate about our
team (and all matters pertaining to the Hospital, as verified by his
frequent contributions to the Historical website) and was an inspirational
character and a tireless worker for our cause. I knew that the film was
going to a good home.
